Execution	Execution 19 July 1876 Wagga Wagga Gaol, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia Note: EXECUTION OF DANIEL BOON. EXECUTION OF DANIEL BOON. The execution of Daniel Boon for the wilful murder of Alexander McMullan, at North Wagga, on the 10th of January last, took place at the gaol on Wednesday morning. Orders for admission to witness the execution had been given to a few persons, but the attendance was mainly confined to the officials of the gaol, the Under Sheriff, the Sub-inspector of Police, Dr. Wren, and the representatives of the local press- The Very Revd. Dr. Bermingham, and the Rev. Father Dwyer arrived at the gaol about seven o'clock in the morning, and a mass was celebrated at which the brothers of the condemned man were allowed to be present. Shortly after eight o'clock, the executioner proceeded to tho cell, and the work of preparation for the culprit's removal to the scaffold was commenced. After some time, the condemned man was led out, the two clergyman leading the way, reciting the service of the Catholic Church. Boon walked to the scaffold with a firm step, his gaze being all the time fixed upon a crucifix which he held in his hands. Arrived upon the drop he adjusted himself to his position with unfaltering composure, and continued for a time apparently absorbed in the contemplation of the crucifix, and in attention to the prayers of the attendant priests, in which he joined audibly. Before the cap was placed upon his head, he said farewell to all friends, in a low but firm tone, praying that all men would forgive him his offences, as he had forgiven all those who had done anything against him, and adding that he died in the hope that he would meet them in heaven, and then handed up the crucifix, which he had retained in his hands up to this time, after having kissed it. The hangman then placed the cap upon his head, and the rope being adjusted the bolt was withdrawn, and after a few convulsive struggles, the doomed man passed into eternity. The usual examination was made by Dr. Wren, and after about an hour the body was taken down. An application had been made to the sheriff for the remains by Boon's relatives, and about two o'clock the body was removed from the gaol in charge of a warder, and conveyed to tho cemetery for interment, a number of persons, relations, and others, following the corpse to the grave. Execution	EXECUTION OF DANIEL BOON. The execution of Daniel Boon for the wilful murder of Alexander McMullan, at North Wagga, on the 10th of January last, took place at the gaol on Wednesday morning. Orders for admission to witness the execution had been given to a few persons, but the attendance was mainly confined to the officials of the gaol, the Under Sheriff, the Sub-inspector of Police, Dr. Wren, and the representatives of the local press- The Very Revd. Dr. Bermingham, and the Rev. Father Dwyer arrived at the gaol about seven o'clock in the morning, and a mass was celebrated at which the brothers of the condemned man were allowed to be present. Shortly after eight o'clock, the executioner proceeded to tho cell, and the work of preparation for the culprit's removal to the scaffold was commenced. After some time, the condemned man was led out, the two clergyman leading the way, reciting the service of the Catholic Church. Boon walked to the scaffold with a firm step, his gaze being all the time fixed upon a crucifix which he held in his hands. Arrived upon the drop he adjusted himself to his position with unfaltering composure, and continued for a time apparently absorbed in the contemplation of the crucifix, and in attention to the prayers of the attendant priests, in which he joined audibly. Before the cap was placed upon his head, he said farewell to all friends, in a low but firm tone, praying that all men would forgive him his offences, as he had forgiven all those who had done anything against him, and adding that he died in the hope that he would meet them in heaven, and then handed up the crucifix, which he had retained in his hands up to this time, after having kissed it. The hangman then placed the cap upon his head, and the rope being adjusted the bolt was withdrawn, and after a few convulsive struggles, the doomed man passed into eternity. The usual examination was made by Dr. Wren, and after about an hour the body was taken down. An application had been made to the sheriff for the remains by Boon's relatives, and about two o'clock the body was removed from the gaol in charge of a warder, and conveyed to tho cemetery for interment, a number of persons, relations, and others, following the corpse to the grave. Note	Daniel Boon obtained the first licence for the Victoria Inn at North Wagga in October 1869, and still held it in 1872. He also obtained the first licence for the Home Hotel, corner of Fitzmaurice and Kincaid St in October 1864. He held the licence until 19 July 1876 when he was hanged.
