Private M. G. Mair.

Constable R. Mair, of Jindabyne, (well-known in this and Yalgogrin district), received word on Saturday last that his brother, Private Malcolm George Mair, had been killed in action in France.

Previous to enlisting he was a clerk in the Commercial Bank at Grenfell. He was barely 19 when he enlisted two years ago in the Machine Gun Section. His parents were well-known residents of Gundagai, and his grandfather was the first Mayor of Wagga.

He leaves an aged mother, two sisters and two brothers to mourn their sad loss.

On the Great War Memorial on Tuesday, Cr. J. F. McLaughlin placed a wreath, bearing the following inscription: "In loving memory of my son, Malcolm George Mair, killed in action, France, May 14th, 1917."

The wreath was sent by the soldier's mother who now resides at West Wyalong, and this floral token has arrived every year for the past 17 years. Mrs. Mair is now over 80 years of age, and was a daughter of the late John Jenkins, owner of the vast Nangus Estate.

Her husband, the late George Mair, was the first Mayor of Gundagai; and her son was a native of Gundagai, but at the time of his enlistment he was in the Commercial Bank at Grenfell.

The wreath that was sent was the work of a florist's art. It was carried out in a autumn shades, from the very fairest cream to the deepest orange.
