MR. MICHAEL LEDWIDGE.

We regret to have to record the death of another old resident of the district, Mr. Michael Ledwidge, who died at the Hay Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Ledwidge was the third son of Mrs M. A. McPherson, of Carrathool, and her first husband, the late Mr. Christopher Ledwidge. He was born on 1st July, 1859, and was thus 72 years of age. He was on the staff of Howlong station for 25 years, and after that lived in Carrathool township for the remainder of his life.

For some years he was employed by the late Mr. Henry Salamon, as carter, and at one time he was engaged as mail coach driver. He also, for some time, had his own team and followed the occupation of carrier. In his various callings he did his best, and enjoyed the full confidence of those who engaged him.

As a resident of Carrathool he did his bit in respect to all the public movements and local enterprises of the town and district, and was held in high repute. While employed on Howlong, years ago, he married Miss Rose Park, of Hay, and his wife survives him.

Of their family of seven sons and one daughter, five sons and the daughter survive. Four sons went to the Front during the great war, viz., Frank Bartle, Michael John, Albert George, and Arthur James. The last named was killed at the Dardanelles.

A fifth son was drowned some years ago. The daughter, Mrs. M. Parr, resides at Carrathool, as does also one son, Alfred Thomas. The other surviving sons are Vincent (of Newtown, Sydney), Michael John (of Sunnyvale, Vic.), Albert George (of Undercliff), and Frank Bartle (of Paddington).

The grand children number forty and there are eight great grand children. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon in the Catholic burial ground within the Hay Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Father Carroll, and those attending included a number of Carrathool residents.

The deceased mother, Mrs. M. A. McPherson, is still living at Carrathool, where she celebrated her 97th birthday on 9th June. She was born at Campbelltown, and was the first White woman to settle in Riverina. Her descendants are: Children, 12; grandchildren, 74; great grandchildren; 133; and great great grandchildren, 30.
