On the back of the photo it has "To Daniel from your cousin Lydia". Daniel Ray (b. 1856) only appears to have one first cousin with the name Lydia. If so, then the photo is of Lydia Lysaught (b. 1867).

The photo was taken at their daughter's (Ethel Amelia Stevens nee Ray) home at Brighton-le-Sands. One of a set of photos taken at Christmas 1924.

While Daniel may look like a soldier fresh from the American Civil War, he is actually wearing a train guard's uniform. He was a guard on the NSW Railways. Apparently he was a very good shot. I believe that hanging from his right hand are quite a…
