DEATH OF MR GEORGE LAWRENCE.

An old and respected identity of this district, in the person of Mr George Lawrence, passed away at the residence of his son, Mr A J Lawrence, Maerannie, on Thursday night.

The deceased was bom in Somersetshire (Eng) on August 9, 1837 and was, therefore, 80 years of age. He came out to New South Wales with his parents when only 12 years of age, the family settling on the Paterson.

Under Sir John Robertson's Land Act, the deceased became a selector at Maerannie, where he resided for about 56 years, following farming and grazing pursuits.

His wife predeceased him 18 years ago and he leaves three sons, viz, Messrs A J and Ed Lawrence (Maerannie), Fred Lawrence (Lostock) and Mesdames Wm Connell (St Clair) and M Flory (Aberdare).

The funeral takes place this afternoon, when the remains will be interred in the Church of England cemetery at Reedy Creek.
