WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25th, 1901. SENTENCES.

William Joseph Brooker, who was found guilty the previous day of larceny, was brought up for sentence. Accused's mother was called, and testified to his appearing a little silly at times and after imbibing intoxicating liquors was like a madman.

He always, when working, helped to support her. In passing sentence, his Honor remarked that accused no doubt was brought to his present position by drink. A number of minor convictions were recorded against him, but if there had been one for stealing the sentence he was about to impose would have been very severe.

The seventh extended system he would undergo in gaol was no joke, and hoped it would have remedial effects. A sentence of 6 months imprisonment in Goulburn Gaol was imposed, to be cumulative with a sentence he was serving.
