Considerable regret was felt in Wagga yesterday when the news spread that Mr. John Ray, senr., of Junee, had died suddenly on Sunday. Deceased, who was about 60 years of age, was one of the best known and most highly respected residents of these parts. He was a native of Picton, and in the early sixties took up land at Oura, where he resided for some years. He subsequently went to live on property he acquired at Brucedale, and remained there for many years. He also owned property at Wallaroobie. He retired five or six years ago and had lived quietly in Junee. He married Miss Tolland, also of Picton, and his wife, eleven sons, and three daughters survive him. With the exception of one daughter, who lives at Picton, the children all reside about the district. The late Mr. Ray was also a brother-in-law of Mr. A. P. Lysaught, night-officer at the Wagga Post-office. Original publication: Wagga Wagga Express (NSW), 6 August 1907, p 2 Obituary 2 - 8 August 1907 Relative to the death of Mr. John Ray, senr., reported in Tuesday's 'Express,' later information to hand states that deceased on Sunday morning, in company with his four sons and three friends, went out some ten miles from Junee, in the direction of Eurongilly, being in his usual robust health. He did much climbing over rocks and running, and there is no doubt he over-excited himself. After a while he complained of a pain in his chest, but after resting a little, said he felt better and that the pain had left him. His sons saw, however, that he was seriously ill, and determined to at once take him in to town to consult a doctor. He was placed in a sulky, and a start was made for Junee, but when about four miles of the journey had been accomplished he suddenly collapsed and died. On Monday morning Mr. A. Scobie, district coroner, held an inquest touching the sad occurrence, and having heard the evidence detailing the circumstances already stated, and the testimony of Dr. Button, Government Officer, found as his verdict that death was due to angina pectoris, a form of heart disease. The remains were taken to Picton by the mail train on Tuesday evening, many assembling on the railway platform to pay a last tribute of respect to a very worthy citizen. A remarkable feature in the procession from the hearse to the railway hearse was that it comprised deceased's eleven sons. Original publication: Wagga Wagga Express (NSW), 8 August 1907, p 2

Obituary	Obituary 1 - 6 August 1907. Considerable regret was felt in Wagga yesterday when the news spread that Mr. John Ray, senr., of Junee, had died suddenly on Sunday. Deceased, who was about 60 years of age, was one of the best known and most highly respected residents of these parts. He was a native of Picton, and in the early sixties took up land at Oura, where he resided for some years. He subsequently went to live on property he acquired at Brucedale, and remained there for many years. He also owned property at Wallaroobie. He retired five or six years ago and had lived quietly in Junee. He married Miss Tolland, also of Picton, and his wife, eleven sons, and three daughters survive him. With the exception of one daughter, who lives at Picton, the children all reside about the district. The late Mr. Ray was also a brother-in-law of Mr. A. P. Lysaught, night-officer at the Wagga Post-office. Original publication: Wagga Wagga Express (NSW), 6 August 1907, p 2 Obituary 2 - 8 August 1907 Relative to the death of Mr. John Ray, senr., reported in Tuesday's 'Express,' later information to hand states that deceased on Sunday morning, in company with his four sons and three friends, went out some ten miles from Junee, in the direction of Eurongilly, being in his usual robust health. He did much climbing over rocks and running, and there is no doubt he over-excited himself. After a while he complained of a pain in his chest, but after resting a little, said he felt better and that the pain had left him. His sons saw, however, that he was seriously ill, and determined to at once take him in to town to consult a doctor. He was placed in a sulky, and a start was made for Junee, but when about four miles of the journey had been accomplished he suddenly collapsed and died. On Monday morning Mr. A. Scobie, district coroner, held an inquest touching the sad occurrence, and having heard the evidence detailing the circumstances already stated, and the testimony of Dr. Button, Government Officer, found as his verdict that death was due to angina pectoris, a form of heart disease. The remains were taken to Picton by the mail train on Tuesday evening, many assembling on the railway platform to pay a last tribute of respect to a very worthy citizen.
