Note: Mr. A. PIGRAM Mr. A. PIGRAM The death took place yesterday morning of Mr. Austin Pigram, at his home, Commons street, Junee. He was one of the pioneer farmers of the Eurongilly district and was aged 70 years. The deceased came to the Junee district a young man and was a fine horseman. Desirous of seeing the country, mounted on a fine animal he rode to the west of Bourke and to the Queensland border. He was a keen follower of cricket and played a good game. His wife, who was a Miss H. Jenkins, of Nangus, died 24 years ago. One daughter, Mrs. N. Buckley, died at Junee three months He is survived by two sons, Walter, farmer of Eurongilly, and Albert, of Ascotvale (Vic), and four daughters, Misses Ruby and Millie (Junee), Mrs. Cecil Grogan (Binalong) and Mrs. W. Pigram (Bribbaree). The funeral takes place this morning. Daily Advertiser (Wagga Wagga, NSW : 1911 - 1954) Tuesday 25 September 1934 p 2 Article MR. AUSTIN PIGRAM The death occurred at Junee Monday morning after a brief illness of Mr. Austin Pigram, one of the best known district personalities, at the age of 70 years, and a brother of Mr. W. M. Pigram, of "Burra Vale." He was one of the old school, and in his younger days took a very active part in the affairs of Eurongilly and district, being a great lover of horse racing and other sports. It was he who assisted in the formation of the old Eurongilly Race Club, and together with his brother had a large number of very fine horses. Deceased was also an ardent cricketer, and around about Nangus and Eurongilly was a power to be reckoned with at that game. Deceased's wife predeceased him by many years. She was buried in the Junee cemetery. There are six -children of the union—two sons and four daughters. The remains were removed to the Catholic Church, from whence the funeral moved on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Deceased enjoyed quite good health till about three months ago, when signs of a complete breakdown became manifest, and the end was not unexpected. During his illness he had the consolation of his church, the Rev Fr. Cochrane being a constant visitor. The late Austin Pigram married Emily Mary Jenkins, of the Billabong, who was a member of the Jenkins family, famous in the pastoralist world in those distant days. She predeceased him by some 24 years. Deceased who is survived by two sons: Walter, of Eurongilly; and Robert, of Ascot Vale. Victoria; and four daughters: Misses Millie and Ruby, of Junee; Mrs. W. Pigram, of Bribbaree, and Mrs. Cecil Grogan, of Ilialong (near Binalong). One daughter, Mrs. N. Buckley, died at Goulburn, three months ago. In his boyhood days, deceased followed the occupation of a carrier, travelling to Sydney with wool with the teams of his father, the late Robert Leopold Pigram. Subsequently Austin Pigram settled at Eurongilly, where he followed farming and grazing pursuits, with the greatest possible success.
